For more than 300-years Thames Ditton has been a popular place to live, being conveniently close to London, having the catchet of nearby Hampton Court across the river and the towns of Kingston and Surbiton close by. The original rural aspect of the village has long since passed and the two or three hour journey to London by horse or carriage has been replaced by a fast train journey into the capital.

The London and South Western Railway arrived in 1849 and this gradually changed the nature of the village. Market gardens that previously provided food for London, made way for housing for commuters and it became a dormitory village. More recently, the High Street has lost many of its shops to supermarkets, but it still has a bakery and greengrocers along with bars and restaurants.

Along with nearby Long Ditton and Weston Green, it is an attractive places to live, with excellent facilities as well as green spaces.
