Berrylands was developed as an urban housing area in the 1930’s partly thanks to property developers who banded together to invest 90 per cent of the cost needed to build Berrylands Station. With its proximity to London, just 24-minutes away from London Waterloo, the area quickly became a popular place to live and the local farm and fields quickly disappeared.

The building of the Kingston by-pass in 1927 also helped in the development of Berrylands, providing faster travel times into London and in the opposite direction to Guildford and beyond.

The old railway station was replaced in 1969 and is now older than the previous one, so perhaps a new one will be built sometime in the next 20-years!
